Open Source Notices

Docfai is free, open-source software. This page lists the license of Docfai itself and of the third-party software the desktop application bundles or downloads. A copy of the third-party notices is also installed with the application (THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt in the resources folder of the installation directory).

Docfai

The Docfai desktop application is licensed under the MIT License. You may use, copy, modify and distribute it, including for commercial use, provided the copyright and license notice are kept. The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind.

Source code, installers and release notes are on GitHub. Questions and bug reports go to GitHub Issues.

FFmpeg

Docfai distributes unmodified FFmpeg binaries (ffmpeg.exe, ffprobe.exe) and invokes them as separate programs for video processing. FFmpeg is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later. FFmpeg is a trademark of Fabrice Bellard, originator of the FFmpeg project. Copyright © 2000–2026 the FFmpeg developers.

Distributed build: FFmpeg 8.1.2 "essentials" build by gyan.dev (build archive, SHA-256: db580001caa24ac104c8cb856cd113a87b0a443f7bdf47d8c12b1d740584a2ec). The full license text of the build is installed with the application at resources/ffmpeg/LICENSE.txt.

Corresponding source code: the FFmpeg 8.1.2 source is available from ffmpeg.org/releases/ffmpeg-8.1.2.tar.xz. The build's embedded version banner (run "ffmpeg.exe -version") lists the package sources of all third-party libraries linked into the build.

Argos Translate

The optional offline Translation Module (downloaded on first use) contains the argostranslate library (MIT License), a Python 3.11 runtime (PSF License), and Argos Translate model data. All translation happens locally on your computer; documents are never sent to any external service.

Electron, Chromium, Node.js

Docfai is built on Electron. The licenses of Electron, Chromium, Node.js and their bundled components are installed by the Electron framework itself as LICENSE and LICENSES.chromium.html in the application installation directory.

Other open-source packages

Docfai's application code depends on open-source npm packages under permissive licenses (MIT, ISC, BSD, Apache-2.0). The full dependency list, with versions, is in package.json and package-lock.json in the source repository.
